Summer Camps

 

 

 

 

Registration for ALL camps will open on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.

 

As you review our summer camp options this year, consider combining two camps, AM and PM. For an extra $20 per week, campers can bring a sack lunch and stay for a supervised lunch period. Campers will have a supervised activity each day during lunch.

When considering combined camps, please register according to age group within the same week. A non-refundable deposit is due at sign-up. Any remaining balance is due by the first day of camp.

 

Refund Policy

If your schedule changes and you need to cancel a registration, please cancel your paid registration at least one week before the first day of camp. We will refund your tuition less a non-refundable $50 deposit.

 

We understand that sometimes a camp is not a good fit for your student. If they attend the first day of camp and decide not to return, we will refund your tuition minus the $50 non-refundable deposit. We can always try to help you find another camp that is a better fit if slots are available. You must call our office (502-897-1816) before the second day of camp to receive your refund. There are no refunds available once the 2nd day of camp begins.

 

Summer Arts Camps

 

SHSA Summer Theatre Collective

Incoming 3rd-5th grade and Incoming 6th-9th grade

 

The SHSA Summer Theatre collective will introduce the performer to all three elements of musical theatre in an instructional/performance-based format. Students will work together with industry professionals from 9:00-12:00 on the three skill sets (acting, singing, dancing). From 1:00-4:00 students will work toward a Cabaret showcase culminating in a public performance.

Toy Story Theatre: Create your own human-size board game!

Facilitated by one of our favorite teaching artists, the group will make creative decisions about creating a life-size board game experience. The emphasis will be on expressing creativity through play and collaboration. Using Toy Story as a springboard, students will design their own game that becomes a dramatic adventure!

Demo performance for family and friends on the last day of camp.

Twisted Tale Spinners Theatre

Create your own story and bring it to life on stage! TaleSpinners campers work together to write an original play, create their characters, choose simple costumes, make props and set pieces, and perform their dazzling creation on the final day.

 

American Girl Doll Visual Arts Camp

While we encourage everyone to bring their dolls and plenty of enthusiasm, the camp is so much more than just “playing with dolls.” Girls will have a blast as they unleash their creativity by learning some history and creating projects like sewing a quilt for their doll, creating Doll and Me bracelets, building pieces for their dolls, and other visual art masterpieces. The week will also be sprinkled with storytelling, American Girl Books, and plenty of fun and laughter.

 

Mixed Media Madness

Experiment and explore the world of Art! Campers will be introduced to various media and techniques, such as paint, fiber, clay, &  printmaking. They will see how artists have used different materials and techniques to create works of art and will utilize this knowledge to create their own unique projects.

 

Kids that Rock Guitar Camp

Do you have rock and roll dreams?
Here’s your chance to learn how to play the acoustic guitar! Whether you’ve ever picked up a guitar or if you already have mad skills, our guitar camp is the ideal setting for beginning to advanced students. Learn chords, tabs, picking, strumming, music theory, and songwriting – the first steps into the musical journey of a lifetime. As you progress, you will learn the finer points as you gain mastery of your instrument. Our young musicians will learn and perform rock, pop, and even classical guitar pieces and will enjoy the creative process of writing and performing an original song. 

Ringers and Whackers
Music making with many tools will be explored in this fun summer camp. Discover how world-famous "junk percussion" groups turn everyday objects into musical instruments. Get inspired by the world around you! Learn to play handbells, boomwhackers, and other percussion instruments. Everywhere you look, a rhythm can be made - percussion is all around!

Broadway Babies

Designed for students who want an introduction to the world of musical theatre and to learn what it takes to perform in a show. Campers will study age-appropriate music and choreography and WILL PERFORM THEIR NUMBERS for parents at the end of the week!   Come for smiles, songs, dance, and a ton of fun! Students are welcome to attend both sessions and will learn a different production number in each session.

Build Your Own Adventure Theatre Camp

What would happen if you had a room full of boxes, sheets, clotheslines, and more to build an imaginative, immersive play space? In that space, our campers can then create a scripted adventure story to be performed for friends and family at the end of the week.

 

Harry Potter-Inspired Art

Join us for a fun week of creating various Harry Potter-themed art projects from a wide variety of materials. Bring your imagination and creativity to the table while you join a bunch of other muggles.

 

Amazing Things with Strings

This exciting camp course will explore all of the fun ways to use yarn and fiber techniques in art! From God’s eyes to woven pouches, there are endless opportunities to learn new skills and bring home a project that you are proud of. 

 

Summer Wonder Visual Arts Camp

This camp will be messy, educational, and fun. It will explore how to get the most out of painting. In addition, the session ends with students producing a collaborative mural painted somewhere in the Sacred Heart School for the Arts! They will experience the public art process from idea generation to completion while working with a professional artist.

Hip Hop Kids
Get ready, get set-it’s Hip-Hop Camp! If you love hip-hop, freestyling, and breakdancing, this camp is for you. Lace up your sneakers and dance with Ms. Rachel.  Invite your family and friends to our special hip-hop performance on the last day of camp!

Journey of the Noble Gnarble Musical

The ocean floor is filled with the rarest of creatures, but none are as rare as gnarbles. Their fins are small, their tails are floppy, and they have never strayed far from their homes…until now. Journey of the Noble Gnarble is a story of a little gnarble with a big dream, who tries to make it past doubting blyfish, sneaky subbalubbles, and hungry plinks on his way to the surface of the sea. Along the way, he befriends the glinny glims who teach him the importance of positivity and determination!

Mystery Makers Theatre

Shhh! Youu… yeah, you! Are you a Mystery Maker? Character Creator? Theatrical Thinker? We have the perfect camp for you!! Unlike other mystery camps which have you solve a mystery, we are creating the whole thing from scratch! Campers will explore their own creativity by brainstorming a mystery, creating characters, writing a play with dialogue, and staging it with costumes, props, and set.  Students will perform their collaborative piece for family and friends at the end of the week and take home their very own original play signed by their fellow campers!

 

American Girl Doll Visual Arts Camp

Origami Camp: Making crazy things with paper

This five-day art camp will introduce the basic fundamentals of origami art. By the end of the class, you will understand and appreciate origami art with your very own completed projects! Simply folding paper, you will learn how geometry can be fun, make two-dimensional shapes, build three-dimensional figures, and create original projects.

 

Songs and Scenes from The Lion King

At SHSA, we inspire kids to learn about theatre arts through acting, singing, and dancing. We keep the good times rolling with lots of fun theatre games, allowing campers to express themselves as they explore different characters and improvisation. This is the perfect camp, and terrific prep for kids thinking about doing a musical theatre production in the future!

 

Taylor Swift Song and Dance Camp

Welcome to the Taylor Swift Theater and Dance Camp. Join us for an exciting adventure in music, performance, and dance artistry, all condensed into a jam-packed, week-long program. At this camp, young talents will have the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in theater and dance under the guidance of experienced instructors who understand music, stage, and movement. From acting to dance routines and choreography, our intensive week-long program is designed to nurture your passion for both performing arts. Get ready to sing, dance, and shine.

 

Watch Out Broadway - Audition Prep Class

Spend the week “Defying Gravity!” Work with a voice teacher and seasoned performer to strengthen your vocal technique and expand your audition skills to prepare you for your next audition. Students will learn important video and live audition tips, including basic makeup tips and dress. They will finish the week with a song ready to perform, a knowledge of how to slate, and a simple headshot. Students will do a mock audition for family and friends on the last day of camp.

 

SHA Performing Arts Intensive

See what it is like to be a singing Valkyrie! The Performing Arts Department of Sacred Heart Academy welcomes future Valkyries to experience each aspect of the performing arts. Each day will start with a lesson on a specific topic, covering sight-singing, vocal techniques, theatre improv, auditions, dance, resumes, and much more! Students will also work as a collaborative ensemble to create a final performance showcase. They will assemble the musical numbers, write the script, and perform on the Ursuline Arts Center stage with direction from the SHA performing arts teachers. This camp is designed for future Valkyrie students to prepare them for the high-caliber performing arts program SHA offers. It will be led by their future directors and assisted by their Valkyrie sisters! It is a wonderful way to make friends before school starts!

Did you know that practicing gratitude regularly can help you be more satisfied with your social and family lives and be more motivated about school and the future? This camp is all about learning how to feel grateful for your unique qualities so that you can see and ultimately pass on the good in many other areas of your life.

 

Valkyrie Value Camp

This camp introduces our Valkyrie Value statement to 5th and 6th-grade girls through a retreat-type, community-building experience based on inclusion, talents, leadership, and service.

 

Babysitting Certification Camp

Jumpstart your summer earnings and join us for a babysitting camp! Get CPR and First Aid certified, learn the do's and don'ts of babysitting, age-appropriate activities, how to communicate with families, and so much more! End your week with a business plan, business cards, and all that you will need to be the most sought-after and responsible babysitter in town!

 

Pet Sitting 101

Looking after pets is fun! It can teach kids about responsibility and social skills. It can also be challenging! This camp will teach your child about the dos and don’ts of pet sitting. They will practice their responsibilities and get to spend time with animals!  

 

Exploring Science

Welcome to our immersive science camp, where students will embark on a transformative journey of scientific discovery. Students will perform experiments and learn the art of scientific inquiry. This camp goes beyond simply conducting experiments; it focuses on teaching students how to do science. They will delve into the context behind these phenomena, develop critical thinking skills, and design their own experiments, fostering a deep understanding of the scientific process. Lego Robotics Adventure Camp

Camp Super Sleuth

6th Grade Math Summer Bridge

Don’t let the summer slump overshadow the excitement of middle school! Stay sharp and be ready for your next chapter with a math summer bridge designed specifically for rising 6th graders.

 

Code Crafters Camp

Learn about the history of coding and then put it into practice using a variety of robots and apps to practice different types of coding.

 

Circuits Galore

Learn how circuits work and then use circuits to make wearables and other functional items.

 

Camp Out with a Good Book

Students will investigate books (both reading and writing) as they camp out in the SHMS library. We will also make camp snacks and crafts as part of this fun reading camp! 

 

World Language Camp

This immersion camp allows middle school students to discover the exciting culture, social customs, dance, singing, games, and cooking in the target language. 

 

Double Olympics of China - Beijing Welcomes You

Students will explore China and Beijing city through the lens of the Beijing Summer and Winter Olympics, along with topics on sports, famous Chinese food, and snacks, like Beijing roast duck, candied fruits, pork noodles, and more. Students will also experience a virtual tour of the Great Wall of China while making arts and crafts and playing LEGOS games throughout the entire camp.

 

Spanish Art and Crafts:

Students will learn about and create crafts from Spanish-speaking countries, such as maracas, pinatas, and papel picado.

 

The Best of French Holidays

Have fun celebrating while also learning more about notable traditions and festivities around the French-speaking world! This camp is a great enrichment for existing learners of French, but no prior language skills are necessary to participate.

Valkyrie Culinary Creations Camp:

Hands-on cooking experience and basic kitchen safety and hygiene designed for middle school girls. Campers' love of cooking will grow as they prepare and enjoy different recipes.

 

Swifty Craft Camp 

Come sing and dance along to your favorite T- Swift songs while crafting up a storm. We will make bracelets, tie-dye t-shirts, and picture frames for each child to take home. At the end of our 2^nd day, the kids will have a chance to trade bracelets if they choose to do so. Long live all the magic she’ll make!

 

Green Thumbs

Get inspired by the power of plants! Spend the morning with exciting hands-on gardening and cooking experiences! Campers will explore the secrets of plants and the joy of digging in the soil, discover the fascinating creatures that play a role in the garden ecosystem, and explore the delicious world of veggies through taste tests and simple dish preparation.

 

Under the Sea Art Camp

Take a deep dive underwater for this ocean-themed art camp. Kids in grades 1-3 will create mixed media art projects, including sculpture and painting, to imagine life under the sea.

 

Mixed Media Art Sampler

This camp is for curious artists, featuring a different media or material, each day. Students will create projects in clay, paper mache, paint, printmaking, and weaving.

 

Summer Athletic Camps

 

Archery 

Whether you are brand new to the sport or have been hitting bullseyes for years, you’ll have fun with SHA’s accomplished Archery team and coaches this summer!  

 

Basketball 

Your camper will grow her game and broaden her skills in this camp run by the amazing Coach Moir and the current Sacred Heart THREE-PEAT State Champion basketball players! Come learn from the best! All skill levels are welcome. 

 

Cross Country 

Summer camp will be four fun days where your daughter can learn more about cross country, meet new friends, and hone her running skills! Camp is run by Coach Rick Heim and his staff, as well as current Sacred Heart runners. All skill levels are welcome. 

 

Field Hockey 

Coach Eleanor Mitchell, and her staff would love to have you join the team for three days of age-appropriate fundamentals and gameplay. Come develop your skills and learn from our SHA Field Hockey players. All skill levels are welcome.

 

Lacrosse 

Join Coach Dennis Truman, his staff, and current SHA Lacrosse players for summer camp to expand your gameplay knowledge and improve your catching, throwing, and ground ball skills. You will grow your game, meet new friends, and have fun with our State Championship coaches and players. All skill levels are welcome. 

 

Soccer 

Join Varsity Coach Shaun Francis, his staff, and current SHA Soccer Stars for a fun week of camp to help develop your ball-handling skills and field awareness and learn more about the game! All skill levels are welcome. 

 

Tennis 

Join head coach Whitney Thompson to help hone your tennis skills, work with current State Champion SHA players, and improve your singles and doubles match play.  All skill levels are welcome.

 

Volleyball 

Summer camp is a great place for young girls to learn and develop new skills, and work to improve their individual and team skills with Coach Versen and current SHA players. All skill levels are welcome.
